Two Weeks in Provence – Day 13 – A short cycle taking the whole day

Well another day has passed in a bit of a blur. Somehow a cycle ride of just under 20 miles managed to take up most of the day, so rather than a wordy blog tonight I thought I would do a picture-book version …………………

The day started with the relatively short, quiet cycle to L’Isle Sur La Sorgue for its Thursday Market.

Whereas the town is heaving with vistors to the Sunday market – the Thursday one is a bit smaller and much quieter, meaning it is much easier to wander around & enjoy what is on offer and take in the little things that make the town so special.

From L’Isle Sur La Sorgue we cycled onto the pretty village of Fontaine De Vaucluse, where we found a spot by the river

to picnic on the food we had bought at the market…………

From there we cycled on into the village parking the bikes by the main bridge

before buying an ice-cream & heading up the riverside path towards the Source of the river ……..

At the end of the footpath is the source itself and needless to say everyone ignores the barriers that have been placed to stop people going any further towards the hole from which the river emerges

We have seen the source when it has been ferociously been spilling over the top of the rocks towards the village and also when it has been so low it is hard to imagine there is enough water to feed the river – but today was about half-way inbetween

On the way back down we passed, what I think is one of the scariest advertising featuresI have ever seen ……………..

After a brief tyre change thanks to a puncture we started to make our way back to the house..

One thing I did notice though is that I have been here long enough to see the cherries change from red

Watching the cherries change colour to this extent has made me realise that my holiday is nearly over & tomorrow will be our last full day before heading back to Dartmoor. One thing is certain and that is that 2 weeks in Provence is not long enough……………..

    • Thanks – last day today so a good long cycle planned with hopefully a slow lunch at Lauris (or perhaps Lourmarin – if we get that far!) – this time tomorrow we’ll be in the car heading home 😩
